It is officially December and that means Christmas is just around the corner! I remember growing up and waiting for the first day of December because that meant one thing: eggnog! As a child, eggnog was a sweet yet delicious drink that unfortunately was only available during the holiday season. Due to that, I definitely took advantage and had as many glasses as I could. I never thought twice about what I was consuming.
Being a child had many advantages, two of them being having a fast metabolism and not reading the nutrition labels on the food I consumed. When I realized how many calories eggnog contained, not to mention the amount of fat inside, I was in utter shock! Did you know one cup of eggnog is 343 calories? I will admit that I never measure exactly one cup of my drink into my glass and a normal glass can usually hold 1.5 cups of a liquid! That means I was consuming closer to 500 calories for every glass of eggnog I consumes, yikes!
Here is a link that has the nutritional label of eggnog within it!
Don't let this information scare you, it is just a reminder that portion control can allow you to enjoy your treats during the holiday season without regretting your decisions later. Next time you want to have a glass of eggnog you can try a few things to lessen the amount of calories inside: use a smaller glass, use ice cubes in your glass, or dilute eggnog with low fat milk!
